Description
The brightest and strongest Northern Lights display that we have personally experienced yet, this KP-6 storm was almost this visible to the naked eye! The title “KP-6” comes in reference from the K-index, an indices used by NOAA to quantify disturbances in the Earth’s magnetic field. The range being of integers 0-9 with 1 being calm and 5 or more indicating a geomagnetic storm. This moment of dancing Auroras was captured during a KP-6 geomagnetic storm flowing over the Flathead Range. As we had not yet experienced a geomagnetic storm of this magnitude, to not only behold such a spectacle, but to be able to capture and share the experience makes “KP-6” truly dear to us.
